Amichai’s Top 50/41 “Don’t you (forget about me)

I remember walking out of the movie theater in midtown Manhattan, mid 1980’s, one Sunday afternoon after watching The Breakfast Club’. We were a few friends, just started high school and were so stunned by how the movie echoed our lives – we didn’t say a word for several blocks.

But then we started dancing goofy and the theme song, like for so many Gen X’rs became our song. I danced to it countless times at 80’s nights and in random mall shops where it’s still playing. What is the secret that some songs have on us all those years later?

As I start to wrap this up it’s so clear that so many of my top songs are from my teens – the 80’s. Partly because of how impressionable those years are and partly because – well – 80’s sound was really unique. anyway. Not forgetting about this one. And time to watch Breakfast Club again.
