Thank you for choosing to join me and artist Jacqueline Nicholls on this 40 day journey into a new year. I hope these reflections on the ripples of our being inspire private introspection and public conversation. Here’s today’s post:

Prepent Day 26

I’ve been holding back on telling someone I care for the truth. What ends up is a shallow, polite relationship that does not nourish our souls. Like air kisses. And it actually hurts. This isn’t about lies or white lies exactly – this is about the absence of sharing, honestly, real feedback with a loved one that may hurt but can also help heal if done with love and courage. Today, with the new year just a few days away, I want to focus on truth telling to those in my inner circle of family and friends – leftovers from an argument, critical constructive criticism, baggage I am carrying from something X said or Y did which I’m not even sure that they remember. This is not an easy task and not everyone is ready to tell or hear the truth. Choose wisely. Invite for a cup of tea or skype or call. Choosing even just one such needed truth will open the heart, I believe, to more honest living and loving. The least I can do is try.

Very excited for Lab/Shul’s fifth season of High Holy Days, back in Tribeca. We invite all ages to return to center, recharge soul, reclaim community and co-create our widening circles of care, compassion and justice.
