Thank you for choosing to join me and artist Jacqueline Nicholls on this 40 day journey into a new year. I hope these reflections on the ripples of our being inspire private introspection and public conversation. Here’s today’s post:

Prepent Day 27

A wise friend asks me over dinner: What will you be ready to toss into the river on the first day of the new year? What do you need to get rid of for a better year? Even with all this Prepent work, D.’s question made me realize that I never really plan what intentions to place on the breadcrumbs that I toss with vigor at Tashlich. But this year, thanks to D., let’s plan ahead. Grudges, half baked rants in my draft inbox, lofty goals that no longer matter, fears that have no more hold, convictions and pains and griefs that are actually over – overboard. Some of the crumbs might even be from meals I loved once, held on with a tight fist, grateful for what was left over – overboard too. Feed the fish with premeditated purpose, sigh of relief, lighter pockets and heart.

Very excited for Lab/Shul’s fifth season of High Holy Days, back in Tribeca. We invite all ages to return to center, recharge soul, reclaim community and co-create our widening circles of care, compassion and justice.
